Michael Mangarella, Ph.D.

B.S. (Magna Cum Laude), 2010, Chemical Engineering, Tufts University, Medford, MA
Ph.D., 2015, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA

Mike is originally from Sandy Hook, CT. He studied chemical engineering at Tufts University in Medford, MA, and also abroad at University College London. In May 2010, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts and joined the Walton Group in August 2010. Before coming to Georgia Tech, Mike interned with PKC Pharmaceuticals in Woburn, MA, and King Industries in Norwalk, CT.

Research Interests

Mike's research focuses on the design and inclusion of well dispersed and chemical specific metal and functional group species in nanoporous carbon adsorbents for tailored host-guest interactions. Current research is centered around carbide-derived carbons, a relatively new class of nanoporous carbons that feature highly tunable physical properties.
